Holistic development is the social, emotional, physical, mental, and intellectual growth of a person. Taking a holistic approach to education means focusing on all aspects of a child’s growth, not just their academic advancements. Most importantly, it’s about establishing the child’s overall wellbeing.

How are houses assigned?

Every student is assigned to a house for the duration of his or her time at IES .All school staff are also assigned to a house and remain in that house for their entire time at IES.

Features of the House System

Being a part of a house enhances each student’s sense of identity and belonging and creates a spirit of friendly collaboration and cooperation. A sense of pride and belonging is developed and enhanced through the House system. Fun and friendly competition, across both sporting and academic pursuits, brings out the very best in our children and serves to give every child the opportunity to contribute towards to his or her house, to the school and to the wider community.

House Points

House points are awarded on a daily basis and any member of staff may award house points. Points are given for: high standards of work, consistent improvement, general helpfulness and manners, consistent positive behaviour or sustained effort.

House Awards

All House points are recorded weekly and count towards the IES House Cup at the end of each term. These points are then further accumulated, to provide an overall score at the end of the academic year. The winning house is awarded the Overall Trophy.

House Leadership

  • House Master (a member of our teaching staff who takes a key leadership responsibility to manage their House)
  • House Captain (a Year 2 student who is selected by student vote)
  • House Vice-Captain (a Year 2 student who is selected by student vote).
The House System provides exciting opportunities for the development of leadership skills among our students.
